Digital City Map for Blind People: plan.b

plan.b is a study by Robert Richter of a digital city map for blind people. The device provides within seconds a tangible illustration of their immediate surroundings.

By feeling the surface of the tablet, the user receives information about the environment and by pressing the “structures” he will receive additional acoustic information. Thus the blind person can move independently, safely and freely in a strange environment, even more, he can explore it and learn from architectural proportions and get an “feeling” for the distance.

The plan.b was presented 2008 by German designer Robert Richter as a thesis at the University of Applied Sciences Münster for the first time.
