The Israeli Bezalel Academy Labs developed a great project that can saves many lifes, school-age children and teens living in earthquake areas especially.
The table was initiated as a final project at the Industrial Design department at the “Bezalel Academy of Art and Design” in Jerusalem, Israel. The table was designed by (then) student Arthur Brutter under guidance of Senior Lecturer Ido Bruno. After completion of Arthur’s studies, and upon his request, the project became a joint venture of Arthur, Ido, and Bezalel labs R&D.
Being a mother of a 6 year-old girl, and living in an area recently hit by a severe earthquake, I would really feel less anxious knowing that my baby is in a school where she can really take refuge under her desk. But I am pretty sure that this simple, inexpensive and easy to implement solution to a problem (the lack of earthquake-proof infrastructures) will never arrive to the right “desk”.
Too easy, too inexpensive when compared to spending millions and signing big contracts to build new schools.
